View Full Version : Benchmark Reviews Sept '07 Contest

31st August 2007, 09:13 AM
Benchmark Reviews has been on the web for almost six months, and September is our milestone month of celebration. We are proud to announce our first contest, and would like to reward some very lucky participants with their chance to (select) and win some very nice prizes.
Here is the list of first place prizes (you get to choose one):
Ultra ULT33186 Chilltec TEC CPU Cooler (http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=65&Itemid=1)
Apevia X-Qpack 2 CM500 Camouflage SFF Case (http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=53&Itemid=1)
Hiper HPU-4K530-MS Type R Modular 530W PSU (http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=37&Itemid=47)
So what do you need to do? That's simple:
1) Sign up for an account in our forum, so we can send you a PM if you're the winner.
2) Make one post in this thread.
3) Submit this form (http://benchmarkreviews.com/content/feedback/survey.pdf) with your answers and information. A confirmation email will be sent to you.
That's it! We invite literally everyone to participate. Even our own editors and those from other sites are welcomed to put their name in the hat!
This contest will end on October 1st 2007. I will send a private message to the forum member randomly selected, and he/she/it will have 24-hours to respond before a new winner is randomly selected.
But wait, what if you don't like this whole "random selection" business? Well, that's unfortunate, but we still have good news for you. The member with the best/most helpful comments submitted in our contest will also receive a prize from the list above (and from a few not on the list), so do your best to give us your (brutally) honest feedback!
Feel free to ask questions here in this thread... good luck!

I'd like to be considered for the contest. Thanks.
I also normally use FoxIt Reader but had to install Adobe Reader in order to submit the form. No big deal though.
You might consider going with a simple PHP based data entry form (using sendmail or perhaps even a basic MySQL database) for future contests to make things easier for contest entrants.

I revised the form so that it is Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 compatible, so hopefully nobody else will have to install Acrobat Reader (sorry about that).
So far the contest is working out very well, and I am getting excellent feedback. On the reverese side of this, some people are holding back. Believe me when I say that I want your most brutally honest feedback.

If your initials are: S.K., R.A., or D.F., you forgot to complete the forum name section of the entry form. I would hate to have to redraw a winner, but the rest of you probably won't.

I am all set to name the winners late Sunday night!
Just so that everyone knows, I have devised a clever little system for this contests' winner. On the back of a CD I put a tick-mark and name every quarter inch; there have been about forty names so far. On the tray of the drive I have drawn an arrow. I will place the disc in the drive and let it spin up. The first person that lines up perfectly with the arrow wins.
I don't think it gets any more random than this.
Of course, the second winner is based on the feedback they submitted. Only two more days!!!

Thank you all for submitting your feedback, I must admit that there were several good ideas to come from the submissions.

But wait, what if you don't like this whole "random selection" business? Well, that's unfortunate, but we still have good news for you. The member with the best/most helpful comments submitted in our contest will also receive a prize from the list above (and from a few not on the list), so do your best to give us your (brutally) honest feedback!
But wait one minute, the 2nd winner has also been drawn randomly ? According to your rules, the 2nd winner will be picked by you who you think has submitted the most helpful comments. ?

First place winner has been confirmed!
ak47is1337 was randomly selected as the winner, and edge offered great feedback. Many others offered helpful feedback, and I thank you all for it!
The next contest will be in a few months, since we have a milestone approaching: 100,000 monthly visitors. We are presently at 80,000 so it shouldn't be long.

There were 46 entries, which means there was a 2% of you winning the random draw. Instead of self-pity, try congratulating the winners... it might make you feel better.

They usually don't include one with contest wins. I've noticed this with ULTRA too.

I got the PSU and HOLY CRAP! Its the 730W!!!!!!!! (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817128009)
Thank you so so much M8!!!
I thought it was going to be the Modular 530W PSU but I received the
HIPER 730W!!! (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817128009)
This thing is a tank. And its a 100% Stainless steel body Looks amazing!
not to mention the 4x12v railz :)
I still cant believe it. Its like Christmas. I opened the box "very well packed I might add" and pulled out this bad ass looking carrying case, look at the front and see HIPER Type R 730W and just about messed myself.
I had a Power supply that blew up like 2 months ago. taking with it 2 36gb Cheetas, a 500gig WD and one of the 74gig raptors I had in raid for my os.
I could not afford to get another psu and was only able to replace the 500gb drive. I lost everything. loads of Flac music, MIDI and Wave files.
I so so needed this beast. TY!

WOW!!! You're are lucky!!!
Super-CONGRATS then!
I didn't know Hiper were having a 730W PSU already!
I'm interested to know how good it performs and will be glad to hear some impressions after you'll actually install it.

Its installed :)
heres some early Voltage readings
Note all readings were done with a Fluke 179 meter. Readings taking from the backside of the 24 pin connector.
Rig:
P5B Delux
Core 2 E4300 @ 3.5 /395FSB/ 1.55V
2x1gb Gskill 2GBHZ
1 74gig raptor
1 audigy 4
1 M-AUDIO Audiophile 192
2 ATI X1950XT's in crossfire
Idle 12v 12.46
Load 12v 12.34 = WOW :)
Idle 3.3v =3.312
Load same
Idle 5v 4.97
Load same
So far this PSU has less very very little 12v droop on load. I'm pretty amazed.
I'm tempted to Volt mod this board to get rid
of the damb CPU Vdroop but I may just hold out for a X38 mobo.
Who won the Cooler??? I really want to see what kind of temps its capable of.

As far as i've heard, the Chilltec cooler will be given in the future contest.

The temp results are listed in our review of it here: Ultra ULT33186 Chilltec TEC CPU Cooler (http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=65&Itemid=47)
I think that our future competition will feature some different products, since the ChillTec is no longer one of the top cooling products I have found. We also have many, many cases which would make for great prizes.
