I just wanted to ask if anyone besides me is having issues with the .NET service pack 2 update in XP? It keeps trying to install and fails every time. I have tried to manually do it via windows updater, but it still fails to install. Anyone?

It's a known issue and bugs me as well.
The easiest solution is to tell Windows Update to never install it.

The quick and easy way:
1) Start Windows update (manually).
2) Chose the "advanced" or "custom" option.
3) Expand the update you don't want.
4) Check the box to hide that update.
Cheers

OK, I stopped Windows Update from constantly trying to install the service pack that will never install. Now I have a new issue. My fricking PC will not stop making that "POP" noise that notifies you that there is an update to install! It is driving me batty!!!!! Anyone know what I can do to stop this, short of a reinstall?!?!?!?

Yes...
Start > Control panel > Sounds and Audio devices > Sounds tab > Sounds scheme drop down box > choose 'no sounds' and live a noise free windows experience or play each of the items in the 'Program events' box below and find which sound annoys you and change it to none. simples.

Thanx. Hopefully that will take care of it. But then again, I'll never know when legitimate updates are waiting.
Edit: The .wav file is windowsxpbaloon.wav. I found it attached to system notification, but setting it to none did nothing to stop the annoying crap I have been dealing with. As soon as I set it to none and posted my thanx, it immediately started doing it repeatedly AGAIN! DAMNIT!

You should choose the first option and live an event sound free windows experience, its one of the first tasks I do after installing XP to customize it to my liking

Could someone PLEASE tell me how to fix this broken .NET framework?!?!?!?
I tried to remove it and re-install, but that doesn't work either.

To be honest, 75% of the time I type something in Google and get EVERYTHING but what I am looking for.

While it didn't say anything about fixing .NET, I tried out the 4.0 beta2 and it actually installed. The problem was that 3.5 wouldn't even reinstall.
And thanks for the link, by the way ......
EDIT: OK, I got .NET Framework 4.0 Beta2 installed and automatic updates is trying to install 3.5 service pack 1 AGAIN!!!!! It is STILL failing to install too! WTF?!?!?!?!

I think you are missing the bigger picture here, the link that I gave to you above is for a direct download of service pack 1 for .net framework 3.5, I guess you just saw the writing at the top and assumed I was giving you a link to the new beta.
proceed to the highlighted area;

Not at all Steven, I got what you were doing. While I said service pack 2, I meant service pack 1. Anyway, it wouldn't install AT ALL. (go figure) But 4.0 beta 2 installed just fine, although I can't understand why updates is now trying to install service pack 1 AGAIN.
