Hello everyone, welcome to my new build.

I've been fiddling about with computers for a while now, building what I can with what little spendo I get, anyway, this is my most recent machine configuration.

iCute Jet Turbine case with 140mm front fan 120mm rear fan and 2 x 80mm side fans
5.25" bay - Blue led 6 fan speed controller. [led's dim as you lower fan speed]
ASUS P5B Deluxe WiFi-ap motherboard
Core2Duo E6400 2.13ghz [OC @ 3.00ghz] idle at around 34 - 36°C load temp is 57 - 59°C - cooler is similar to intel stock but this is bolt-thru and also nearly twice as tall
2gb OCZ platinum revolution2 pc6400 [linked 1:1 with the cpu so comes in underclocked but latency 4-4-4-15] - relatively new to overclocking so still a little to learn yet.
PNY 9800gt 600 clock 900 mem 1500 shader dont like to OC this cos im scared ill fry it lol idle is 45 - 47°C load can be 65 - 70°C
OCZ StealthXStream 500w psu
Western digital ata ide 160gb for system [XP Pro SP3]
Western digital s-ata 200gb for Games and media

so here it is :-

Remove a drive cover and hey presto [these things are bright on full speed so i hid them]

Also, I mounted a Thermalright HR-09S Type 2 Mosfet cooler to the board as Asus only deemed it necessary to place 1 mosfet cooler on board, but they were nice enough to make fittings for another :)

But i hit a little rock in this otherwise smooth road

Little component in the way. Never the defeatist i came up with this idea,

flipped the screw part of the clamp and presto -

also like to point out that asus board logo glows up

blue when pc is off

http://s945.photobucket.com/albums/ad297/hatchet_2009/?action=view&current=off.png

red when pc is on

Real nice asus i love it.

There we are, next things on the agenda are possibly faster cpu but definately need better cooling.

Steve out.

Fixed. You've only got a few more posts before you're full-fledged.

I think it would be a good idea to invest in better cooling solutions for your video and processor. I have a evga 9800GTX that idles around 37-38c and pushed it has only reached about 55-56c on stock cooling. Yours runs more than 10c higher. Is it passive cooling?

has exactly same cooler as this bfg card

definately want to upgrade the cooling, water would be nice but i think i have to stick with air for now.

silent knight or arctic square or even the star ice not decided on vga cooler yet any ideas

The temps seem fine as they are. No reason to improve the cooling other than possibly to reduce the noise level a bit.
Does it sound like a jet turbine? ;)

Cheers

My opinion is always the cooler the better. Maybe it's just a high ambient temp in the room?

While we are engaging in hardware talk. My wife's PC has a C2D 6550, ASUS P5NS-SLi MB, Crucial Ballistix 2x 1GB, 7800GTX 256MB video, Creative Value(?) sound and a FSP 550watt PSU. Every time it is turned off it takes hours to get it to boot again. When it is powered up it just does nothing at all. Well, the fans run but nothing comes up on the monitor. It doesn't have a system speaker so I don't know about any beeps.

Anyone have any idea what could cause something like that? Once it is up and running it is just fine. Works flawlessly, just some stupid problem I haven't identified yet.

EDIT:
I found a speaker. I get a repeating single beep about 1 or 2 seconds long that repeats every 4 to 5 seconds.

Nevermind, I found the problem ...... FINALLY! One of the sticks of Ballistix DDR2 is bad.

Your 9800GT runs pretty cool compared to the XFX one I have lying around somewhere. It would idle at 70c with the fan at stock, and 55c with the fan at 100%, and got to about 90c load.
