Seriously, I am sorry to have to post AGAIN about the removal of a harmful file. One of my brothers, neither one of them really mechanically inclined, saw a pop up that said there was a harmful trojan on the computer. They downloaded Personal Antivirus *PAV* and it acts as a real program except it keeps opening popups and telling me that there is a trojan on the computer. Now my problem is that it has an uninstall feature but it doesn't work, and if I right click the program shortcut down in the bottom right of my screen and select close, it does not change.

What I need this time is for someone to help me figure out how the heck to fix this crap...again! From this point on, my brothers are not going to be downloading a damn thing without my approval because I am sick and tired of fixing their mistakes. I have had to fix this computer at least once a month since I got here and I am tired of it.

We really need this computer since my mom does work online so I can't let it fall to pieces, I would appreciate your help. A quick response would be very much appreciated as I am not sure just how harmful this program is to the computer.

Those fake anti-viruses are a pain in the a** to get rid of. I made the mistake of letting one infect my system before, and ended up reformatting when I saw what it would take to remove it (I'm paranoid about going into the registry to edit ANYTHING)

I'd definitely look at the link XJnine posted.

Did you have an anti-virus (legit one, I mean, like Avast, or etc.) already installed?

Unfortunately, no, I did not have an antivirus. The most I had was an antimalware prog called Malware Bytes.

I am going to take a look at the link XJnine posted and see if I can get rid of it. Also, does anyone know if there is a program that I can download to "idiot-proof" the computer. Say, put a password prompt on any downloads and certain actions, etc.

There are all kinds of crazy things out there for the computer security, I was just wondering if this was out there yet. Lol

Alright, so I did what XJnine suggested in the link and went into the registry. I didn't really have to do this but I went ahead to make sure that there were no hidden bits of the file in my system. I'm clean and clear at the moment and I will be finding every way to keep my idiot brothers from screwing it up again.

Look into getting a free-ware Anti-virus. I recommend Avast (I think I recommended it to you before, actually, :p) The web scanner should alert you in case something like this happens next time, and it's updated regularly.
