My dad got a laptop from a friend, but his friend didn't give him any CDs. I swear I read an article in PCWorld that a software of some sort will basically restart Windows XP from the beginning. I can't reformat due no CD. This laptop DOES have genuine XP. If anyone does know what I am talking about, please send me a link to that article or something relating.

Use this to find your key:
http://pcsupport.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=pcsupport&cdn=compute&tm=4&f=10&su=p284.8.150.ip_&tt=4&bt=0&bts=0&zu=http%3A//www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

Then grab a friends copy of XP and use your key.

On a side note, make sure you get the correct version of the XP CD. Don't try to use Home if the version of XP that's installed is Pro. Also don't try to use a CD that is one with SP2 already installed if the laptop is an older one that came with XP before the service packs. Trying to do any of those things will result in an error since the CD-key won't be compatible.
