Good day,

Since many other forums have a tradition on introducing ones self when signing up, I thought I would do the same here.

I was an early adopter of computer technology owing to my fathers fascination with math & physics. I remember overclocking my first machine, not using software or jumpers, but actually soldiering on new components or swapping clock gens.

By day I am a unix geek/commandline jockey. My primary scope is IBM's AIX, though I've been using Linux since the days when kernel 2.0 was bleeding edge and FreeBSD 3.1. Prior to that, it was Windows & MacOS.

I am grudgingly taking Cisco and LPIC certifications and have in the past been certified for Novell Netware & Groupware as well as a couple MS products, but have let them expire. I don't believe certifications are a true test of ones skill and they should be looked at as simply an indication of the very basic skillset (in most cases, some certs are worth their weight in gold, natch.) Alas, HR weenies the world over don't share my views.

I am perversly fascinated by things happening in the middle of a packet, and read texts on security in the little spare time afforded me by my two year-old daughter. I also play bass & dabble in guitar and love a loud & heavy distortion more than any man should. I quit my last band just prior to them getting some serious radio play due in large part to me being too old and far too married to properly enjoy the sex, drugs and rock & roll schtick.

I also have an unhealthy fascination with portable computing, and think that Palm has, unfortunatly, jumped the shark, and that contrary to past experiences, MS has done a surprisingly good job of Windows Mobile.
